Your Flight Day
From the moment you arrive to the bubble toast after landing. Here’s how the day unfolds.
The day begins with a meeting in the early morning or the evening, when the air is calm and the light is golden. The pilot and ground crew will be waiting for you at the launch site – usually a quiet field on the edge of town. A relaxed atmosphere hangs in the air: thermoses of tea, morning dew, or a beautiful sunset with birdsong.
The pilot will gather the group for a short, clear briefing. You’ll learn how to stand in the basket, what to hold on to during landing, and how the burner works. You’ll learn everything you need to know. It’s very simple — you’ll feel ready for flight.
This is the part that surprises everyone. We spread a huge envelope on the grass. Fans first inflate it with cold air, then -using burners attached to the basket – we fill it with hot air. The balloon begins to rise, and that’s when you see just how huge it really is. You can volunteer to help hold the envelope or the ropes (it’s great fun!) and even look inside the balloon. This is a very exciting moment, where you’ll capture some of the most interesting photos of the day.
The basket lifts off the ground so gently you barely notice it. One moment you’re standing in a field, and the next it’s slowly getting further away from you. Because we move with the air during flight, you won’t feel the wind in the basket. There’s peace and silence between the regular sounds of the burner. The sounds of nature from below are often slightly audible. For the next hour, you drift over forests, rivers, and fields, observing the world from a perspective that makes everything seem new. The pilot points out interesting spots and changes altitudes, catching different types of wind at different heights. It’s peaceful, open, and truly unique.
The pilot analyzes potential landing spots, selects a field, and the basket touches the ground. Then something truly exciting happens: volunteers help fold the balloon down. We grab the giant envelope to release the last of the air from it, toss it back into the (giant) bag, and 10 of us sit on it to expel remains of air. It’s all part of the tradition and the fun. You’ll feel like a member of the team, not just a passenger. Our regulars say this is one of their favorite moments of the entire adventure.
Once the balloon is packed, it’s time for sparkling wine and a little picnic! Each flight ends with a toast—a tradition dating back to 18th-century France, when the Montgolfier brothers would bring wine to appease frightened farmers who thought the balloon was a dragon. Today, it’s simply a celebration of having experienced something extraordinary. Family and friends can follow your flight in real time on our dashboard and meet you at the landing site so no one misses the moment.
